    ok i could never understand that if they make you sick why put them in stews or whatever to get the flavor out of them. What is in the leaf will be in whatever you eat when you use them but on the side of caution I never ate the just used them for flavor.
    this makes sense. thanks for the reply!! See what a rumor can do, they mess with GOOD EATS!!

    I heard the story (urban myth?) about eating bay leaves. It came from someone eating unwashed leaves and getting some sort of parasite/worm from eggs that were deposited on the leaves. Probably just an urban legend, cautionary though, never eat unwashed anything.
