This was a school project and the egg hatched while the camera was rolling!

This particular bird is still happily pecking away at one of the school kids’ houses, along with a number of other class project chickens. Apparently, there are lots of people who don’t want to see them go from classroom pet to dinner table. :-)

    They eat cracked …
They eat cracked corn. You just put it in a bowl or dish, and they know to peck at it and eat it. Sometimes it helps speed them along if you to “peck” it with your finger a bit to give them the idea, and they take it from there!

    It seems like they …
It seems like they do just fine on their own if they are given a chance. I think most people are too impatient and want to hurry things along by helping! It’s ironic that helping can hurt them. Thanks for watching :-)

    Aww, you just wanna …
Aww, you just wanna help it make it’s way into the world, but you know that you mustn’t. For this process helps them to become strong, and a load of other ‘fend for themselves or whatever’ stuff :3

    I’ve never had that …
I’ve never had that happen, but I suppose it could if people ate fertile eggs that weren’t collected, cooked, and eaten right after the hen laid them.

Fortunately, most eggs that people eat aren’t fertile (the hens aren’t allowed to mate with the roosters) so there’s no chance of a chick being inside no matter what.. :-)
